Sadly, I abandoned the effort after getting many thousands of errors on the GRAMPS import. Rather, my project was to try to remove as many RM-isms from GEDCOM as possible to see what would happen, and I thought that exporting from RM without the RM specific features, importing to GRAMPS, and then exporting from GRAMPS was a good thing to try. I was not looking to replace RM with GRAMPS or anything like that. I had reason a few months ago to download GRAMPS. I would like to discuss your use of BK email me please.įrom: On Behalf Of Jerry Bryan Sent: Monday, Ma2:08 PM To: Subject: Re: GED com File from RootsMagic There is Nigel Parker but you need to install ubuntu to use it Then there is Gedcom service programs but not free There is also the old familysearch gedcom validator if you search for their ftp but you have you run DosBox for it a 16 bit program. The download includes his genealogy program gigatrees and has Vgedx plus the source code if somebody wants to carry the torch. Another validator is showmegedcom Then there is Tim Forsythe though he claims to quit working on it this year. This spread sheet show the various tags programs use compared to other programs, and this will help you on some of those tags generated. ![]() Then for these import defined tags there is Keith Riggle's. Another interesting website is for learning on the gedcoms and good reviews for programs is Tamura Jones (little harsh). Take some time to either read his assessments or try for yourself for you will be surprised. Programs report rejection errors in the import log but not the ignored errors. An example of this is the gedcom assessment by John Cardinal at. The program will import but not necessarily make a import log of all items with the errors. ![]() I don't trust programs any more for importing everything or making a report on the import errors.
